Monograms: The History of An Exquisite Art
They are singular works of art. Stark and bold or delicate and lacy, the meticulously designed lines of a monogram carry with them the weight of history, the pride of ownership and the representation of family, and a designation of social status. Prosperous families of the Middle Ages used monograms to identify everything from their houses to their possessions. Those of us today who are without a drop of noble blood probably do not appreciate the benefits of living in a society in which we are free to embroider our initials on anything we please. Today, monograms continue to enchant and delights us with both their practicality and their artistry.

Here is some basic monogram etiquette:
Monogramming for an individual: The common order is first initial, last initial, middle initial, with the last initial larger than the first and middle initials. Example: Abigail Lynn Brown would be: A B L
We recommend if you want all the initials letters the same size you place the first initial, middle initial, and last initial in that order. Example Abigail Lynn Brown would be: A L B.
Monogramming for the couple: The most common rule is using the women’s first name, married last name, husband’s first name. Example: Abigail Lynn Brown married to Ryan Daniel Morris would be A M R.
Monogramming for a Man: The most common rule when monogramming a men's gift item is to use a same-size monogram or full name. Example: Timothy Scott Bailey would be TSB.
Monogramming for Baby: Monogramming a baby item all depends on the size of the item and that will determine whether you can use the full name or just the initials, as well as adding the birth date and time. You should generally follow the individual monogram etiquette for the initials.
Monogramming for Children: For safety reasons, it is recommended if the item is being worn in public to go with the three initial monogram; otherwise you can go with the name or nickname.
